Dr. Jack Newman & Ms. Edith Kernerman
Jack and Edith are more than happy to help you with
your breastfeeding concern.
Due to the extremely high number of emails they get
daily, they ask that you refer to the video clips and handouts on
this website to help you address your concerns first. Almost
every problem is addressed in these handouts (under
Breastfeeding Help) and video clips.
If the clips are not enough, then we do have a DVD
you can order and which ships very quickly. If you truly
are at a loss and still need help, then please send a very very
brief email with the age and weight of your baby. Please
indicate the problem you are having in one or two sentences.
Your whole or past history is not necessary.
Please do not send a long email. Long emails
will not be read. If Jack and Edith need more information they
will email you. Thank you for your understanding.
Please include all the following information in your email.
We need some very specific information from you in order to help you:
- Your breastfeeding child’s age
- If you or your baby have been seen at the clinic and when.
- Where you live (province or state, country)
- Please state the problem you want us to address clearly in the first line of the text. Then add information, briefly, afterwards.
- How your baby is being fed: breast, bottle, cup, finger feeding, lactation aid at the breast or a combination of the above.
- If you are sore, whether the soreness involves the nipple, the breast, or both.
- If you have a concern about the baby’s weight, we need to know more than his present weight. It means nothing to know that your 4 month old weighs 5 kg (11 lb). If he was born at 2.5 kg (5lb 8oz), this is probably fine. If he was born at 4 kg (8lb 12 oz), then it probably isn’t fine. One or two weights in between would also be very helpful.
Note that we cannot answer questions not related to breastfeeding as the numbers of emails is becoming overwhelming.
