Newman Breastfeeding Clinic & Institute (NBCI)
Centre of Excellence
Coordinated by Eileen Park, MSc, NBCI offers educational courses for lactation consultants, physicians, midwives, nurses, naturopaths, doulas, and those wishing to sit their IBLCE exam to become a professional Lactation Consultants. Through research, hands-on practical application, and exploration of innovative teaching techniques and approaches, the Centre of Excellence strives to provide extremely high and consistent standards in Lactation Education. The NBCI Institute’s Centre of Excellence offers an NBCI diploma upon successful completion of the following requirements:
I. The Path
a) 300 NBCI clinical hours
b) Completion of the basic and advanced course work (including class work and written assignments)
c) A 3-day practical examination of clinical skills
II. The Clinical Path
a) 200 NBCI clinical hours
b) Completion of the advanced course work + NBCI’s medical practice and terminology programme (including class work and written assignments)
c) A 3-day practical examination of clinical skills
III. The Advanced Clinical Path
a) 120 NBCI clinica hours
b) Completion of the advanced course work + NBCI’s medical practice and terminology programme (including class work and written assignments)
c) A 3-day practical examination of clinical skills
Eligibility for pathways is based on the criteria for IBCLE pathways. To determine which pathway you belong to and for more details about courses, please contact institute@drjacknewman.com for a registration form.
NBCI strongly encourages students to sit for the IBLCE exam along their way to achieving the NBCI diploma. Along with the NBCI diploma, Students are awarded 50% of their membership for the first year to the International Lactation Consultant Association (and their affiliated country/provincial/state association). NBCI strongly encourages its students to be members of ILCA.
